If you’re looking to make the most of the outdoors with your furry best friend, our free & open to all monthly community hikes are the perfect way to do just that and we would love for you to join us to explore southeastern CT with your dog in 2025!
At Barks & Recreation, we’re proud to sponsor the Barks Community Facebook group—a space for pet parents in Southeastern CT to connect, share tips, and explore together. Our hikes aren’t just about exercise; they’re about building a community where your dog can socialize and you can discover local treasures while having fun.

All our hikes start at 10am and we typically hike for about an hour. But stick around after, we often have treats for humans and pups alike!
Monthly Hike Locations for 2025
January – Hewitt Farm, North Stonington
Kick off the year with a brisk winter walk at Hewitt Farm (CT RT 2 & Hewitt Rd, North Stonington). This scenic spot, with its mix of open fields and wooded trails, is perfect for an invigorating start to 2025.
February – Bluff Point State Park, Groton
On February 15, we’ll head to Bluff Point State Park (55 Depot Rd, Groton). With coastal trails and dramatic views, this park is an ideal location as the first hints of spring emerge.
March – Upper Three Mile River Preserve, Old Lyme
March 15 takes us to the Upper Three Mile River Preserve (4 Mile River Rd, Old Lyme) on the border of East Lyme/Old Lyme, just across from the Old Lyme Transfer Station. This preserve offers a serene backdrop and the gentle sounds of flowing water—a wonderful place for both dogs and pet parents to unwind.
April – Hoffman Evergreen Preserve, Stonington
On April 19, join us at Hoffman Evergreen Preserve (578 N Stonington Rd, Stonington). Enjoy the lush greenery and peaceful trails as you reconnect with nature and fellow pet parents.
May – Candlewood Ridge, Ledyard
May 17 brings us to Candlewood Ridge (278-284 Lambtown Rd Exd, Ledyard). Accessible via Groton, this location promises scenic views and a great workout for you and your pup.
June – Sheep Farm North & South, Groton
On June 21, explore Sheep Farm North & South (126-498 Hazelnut Hill Rd, Groton) where open fields and pastoral landscapes offer a refreshing summer hike.
July – Tri Town Trail, Preston
July 19, we’ll navigate the diverse terrains of Tri Town Trail (20 CT-117, Preston), just north of the Ledyard line. A perfect spot for those summer adventures!
August – Summer Swimming Spots
August 16, We picked a safe swimming at John Lohmann CT River Preserve (33 Coult Lane, Old Lyme) for our hottest month of the year
September – Copps Brook Preserve, Stonington
On September 20, we’ll enjoy the crisp autumn air at Copps Brook Preserve—a peaceful retreat in Stonington.
October – Cedar Woods, Norwich
October 18, experience the charm of Cedar Woods in Norwich. This urban park is perfect for a relaxed walk amidst the fall colors.
November – Community Pick
Finally, in November, we’ll let our community choose the next adventure. Share your favorite local spot, and you might just see it featured on our next hike!
